Game tips — Putting
When putting, players normally use a kind of throw that is much different from the throws you use in other situations on the course. There are two common putt techniques; the usual putting technique and the straddle putt.

In the usual way of putting you stand with your right foot behind the marker (if you are right handed) and the left foot behind you. Make sure you stand steadily and remove loose objects like stones, sticks, etc from the ground. A suggestion is to hold the disc with the ordinary fork grip.

Start the putting motion by holding the disc towards your stomach and lean slightly backwards to let the back foot become the supporting foot. Then push the arm forwards while you move the body weight to the front foot. Then stretch the arm towards the basket and release the disc as late as possible, so that you will have a long way to steer the disc. Try using your wrist as little as possible. Instead, push the disc straight ahead towards the chains without giving it more spin than necessary.

Just like with any other throw, it is important that you follow through properly throughout the movement. Don’t stop abruptly immediately after the release. With this usual putting technique you will be able to get some extra distance compared to what you would achieve with the straddle putt, as you let your legs help pushing forwards to give the disc good speed.

When doing the straddle putt you stand with your feet apart and "fetch" the disc from between the legs. This technique makes it easier to stand more steadily than with the usual putt style. One advantage with the straddle putt style is that it suits better in situations where you need to move a bit to one side because of an obstacle.

Try both techniques and see which one will suit you best. Even when you have decided which variant to go for, it will still be good to be able to switch temporarily to the other style when the ground don’t allow you to stand firmly in the way you’re used to.

The fork grip provides the best control for putts. Many players also choose to put their little finger towards the center of the disc’s bottom side.
